Power Raking Land for Seed Prep

In case you’re wondering what power raking is for installing new lawns, it’s basically the use of a power rake mounted a piece of heavy equipment such as a tractor or skid steer. The rake is nothing more than a cylinder with points on it that rotates in a counter motion (backwards) as you drive the tractor forward. This rotating of the studded cylinder while driving forward raking the rocks and roots out of rough-graded lawns. All the trash is raked out and then either pushed down into an unseen area or carried off site. The motion of the power rake leaves behind a very nicely prepared seed bed, free of most rocks and roots as well as a smooth yard. A smooth yard offers more enjoyment when you’re out walking or playing on your lawn, as well as when mowing. A roughly graded lawn makes for a bumpy ride on a lawn mower unless its power raked prior to new grass seed being applied.

Power raking takes an experienced operator to know the depth and speed at which to rake. An inexperienced operator will usually end up taking off too much top soil and leaving behind too many rocks and roots. An experienced operator can leave behind a well smoothed and evenly graded area that’s perfect for grass seed germination. Lynchburg Property Works offers power raking services for contractors, new home builders, or anyone that wants to have a new lawn installed. Many times a worn out lawn that is full of weeds, low spots and uneven terrain can benefit from having the existing grass raked up and removed, then some new soil brought in and raked smooth in order to restart and freshen an old lawn up. We only recommend power raking existing lawns if they are in very bad shape and the underlying soil is uneven and not level due to erosion, trees being removed, or having drainage problems that need correcting with grading work performed.
